What I do

I'm a naturopathic doctor, and I treat adults and children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and occasionally other digestive conditions at Capital Integrative Health in Bethesda, Maryland. I’m also licensed in Oregon, California, and the District of Columbia, so I can provide care to residents of those states (including ordering and interpreting labs and imaging) without an in-person meeting.

I’m the chief scientific officer (CSO) for two different heath & microbiome start-ups: Biome Bridge in Panama City, Panama and Anthera VMT in Portland, Oregon

I offer remote educational consults for people who can't travel to see me but who want (typically) one or two consults regarding medical issues that I have clinical expertise in, like fecal microbiota transplantation or helminthic therapy. I'm often working with your local doctor on this one.

I like consulting for non-profits and corporations, and have done some of that work (here's my CV).

I teach the naturopathic gastroenterology course at Sonoran University of Health Sciences. I’m former faculty at Maryland University of Integrative Health and East West College of the Healing Arts.

I write articles on specialized medical topics, I do interviews & talks, and I teach continuing medical education. I'm on the board of directors of the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and I'm on the editorial board of the Natural Medicine Journal.

Some of my favorite times are spent outdoors with my four kids. :-)

Philosophy

There's a lot of low-hanging fruit where traditional world medicines and evidence-informed medicine overlap. This neglected place is where I like to spend my time - with my patients, with people who book remote educational consults, in non-profit & corporate consulting, and in my writing & lecturing.
